Don't miss Lavay Smith and her Red Hot Skillet Lickers Wednesday, May 15 at 8 pm (doors open at 7 pm) at the Eldorado's BuBinga Lounge. Lavay and her band are considered one of the top swing and jump blues bands in the country.

The sultry vocals of Lavay Smith and her all star band features some of the finest musicians available consisting of four horns, guitar, piano, bass and drums.  Lavay evokes a sensuous era of jazz queens while adding her own modern style that audiences have grown to love.  She has become known as the Diva of the swing scene, a cross between Marilyn Monroe and Bettie Page, with a singing style influenced by Billie Holiday, Dinah Washington, Bessie Smith, and Little Ester Phillips.

The band first performed in 1989 and immediately began attracting crowds thanks to Lavay's big, bluesy voice, exciting stage personality, and glamorous approach. By 1991, the Skillet Lickers had become established enough to win the San Francisco Weekly readers' poll in the "Best Blues Band" category, garnering the band a "Wammie" award.

In addition, Lavay and her Red Hot Skillet Lickers have won the prestigious "Bammie" award for "Outstanding Swing Band."

Lavay and her band have performed at festivals throughout the country such as the Monterey Jazz Festival, Lincoln Center, San Francisco Jazz Festival, Montreal Jazz Festival, Chicago, New York, San Jose and more.  When not on the road, Lavay and her band are showcased every Friday at the Café du Nord in San Francisco.

Burn The Floor - "Would You Like to Dance With Me?"
The new show, Burn the Floor, at the Eldorado Showroom features championship dance couples from fifteen different countries, Burn the Floor is best described as a culture clash between the elegant sophistication of ballroom dancing and the sweaty sensuality of rock and roll--its strictly ballroom gone strictly sexy.

The vision for Burn the Floor surfaced after producer Harley Medcalf attended Elton John's 50th birthday party in October of 1998 where international ballroom dancers performed for the guests.  What he saw was ballroom dancing with attitude, as never seen before. For the next few years, Medcalf traveled the world in search of the best dancers.

In seventy five minutes the show explores beyond Ballroom and Latin dance styles including rhumba, samba, cha cha, waltz, jive, jitterbug, swing, mambo, salsa, tango and quickstep. It transcends time, styles, moods, and genres. It expresses emotions, the sexual chemistry that fires between a man and a woman, the sheer joy of music and the excitement of dance. It's a journey for the senses, a fiery feast of movement, a sizzling montage of sound, and a luminous display of stage and lighting.

Show tickets are $26.95. For seniors 60 and older and children ages 5-12 tickets are $21.95 (No senior discounts on Saturdays, holidays, or with dinner packages). The Eldorado is offering five dinner and show ticket packages. Show tickets and dinner/show packages may be purchased at the Eldorado's Promotion Center or by calling 1-800-648-5966 or (775) 786-5700.

International Latin singing sensation Julio Iglesias will perform in Silver Legacy Resort Casino's Grande Exposition Hall at 9 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, May 3 and 4. Fans won't want to miss this energetic live performance of such audience favorites as, "To All the Girls I've Loved Before," "Bamboleo" and "All of You."

Julio Jose Iglesias de La Cueva was born in Madrid, Spain, on September 23, 1943. As a young man in Madrid, Julio studied law with the hopes of becoming a career diplomat, even though his first true love and ambition lied on the soccer field. These dreams were soon shattered when a near fatal car accident left him partially paralyzed and unable to walk for almost two years. During his recuperation, his father's assistant gave him an old guitar as a therapy exercise for his fingers and to pass the time.  Julio would write poems and set them to music, soon discovering a new passion that would take over his life.

Julio went on to surprise everyone, including himself, by winning the top award at Spain's prestigious song festival, the Benidorm, with his composition "La Vida Sigue Igual (Life Goes On)" in 1968. At the Benidorm, Julio began a serenade to the world that never ended.

For the next fifteen years, Julio composed his own music and established himself as an international superstar. In 1983, Julio received the first and only Diamond Record Award ever given to a performer by the Guinness Book of World Records for selling more records in more languages than any other musical artist in history.  His first English release in 1984, "1100 Bel Air Place," immediately went multi-platinum and formed an all-important bridge between European and American music.  In 1985, a star with his name was unveiled on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

In 1998, Julio received the American Music Award for Best Latin Artist.  The man who wrote his first hit thirty years ago has gone on to earn over 2,600 platinum and gold records, having now recorded 76 albums and sold over 250 million.

Tickets to see this Latin superstar are $70, $65, $55 and $45, and are on sale now online at tickets.com, through Silver Legacy reservations at 1-800-MUST-SEE or at the Resort Casino's Club Legacy booth on the main casino floor.
